Why this image is important to us

This image encompasses the idea of team work and an end result! The girls spent the morning taking part in a series of team games, they then had the opportunity to build their own raft, an experience new to all of them. The end result was the fun and enjoyment out of sailing their own rafts and the realisation that they could have active fun in their own small home town without spending a lot of money to do it. From this positive experience the girls have now participated in a number of other outdoor activities; including abseiling an adventure walk and outdoor cooking...with many more planned for the future.

Why we think this image will inspire the young people of Scotland to be more active in their everyday lives in the run up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games

The pictures show a group of girls having fun and enjoying themselves!
It was mid July but the weather as often is the case in Scotland was rather changeable, which can often put young people off going out and being active! Despite this the girls all came along and spent the whole day outdoors participating in lots of fun and challenging activities and were still smiling at the end. I therefore think this image depicits the idea that the sun doesnt have to be shining to be outdoor and active, you can still have fun hail, rain or shine!
